During August 2020, in the middle of the first wave of the pandemic, Mina Zoulovits, Partner at ZK Law Firm, was invited to speak at the first ECM Summer School 2.0 for advanced professionals in the Meetings Industry. Mina presented some basic aspects of personal data protection during covid-19 in her presentation titled GDPR & COVID-19: Act Smart; Recover Fast.
Mina explained in a nutshell the application of GDPR in the case of the meeting industry, including:
- the basic principles for data protection focusing on the Regulation’s geographical scope and the need for proprtionality in its application
- the challenges to the processing and managing personal data during the pandemic
- the need for localized application
- the treatment of special category data such as health data
- obligations, challenges, proactive and reactive measures for employees, meetings & conferences, hotels and the travel industry
