At the start of the first quarter of 2022, on January 11, negotiations for the adoption of the Digital Markets Act (“DMA”) began. The proposal of the new Regulation focuses on imposing rules form gatekeeper platforms, setting limitations on their practices, imposing stricter rules for the operations of tech giants in the digital world.

The Digital Markets Act is the culmination of a multi-year effort of the EC to understand the activity of digital platforms and their impact on commerce within the European market. It is an attempt to regulate the digital business world, as a response to the excessive volume of transactions, users and capital concentrated by the modern technology giants, whose activities, according to the Commission, are not adequately supervised.
