On July 12th, 2022, Penny Kontogeorgou, Partner, and Zoe Syrmakezi, Associate at ZK Law, had the opportunity to teach a crush course in legal issues faced by startups and entrepreneures during the International Summer Study Program on Digital Business (DigiBiz), organized by the Athens University of Economics and Business (ΟΠΑ), Department of Marketing and Communication, and the Eli Broad College of Business of Michigan State University, one of the leading Universities in the USA, which, in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs systematically ranks among the top.
The speakers elaborated on legal issues arising from:
- Incorporation, focusing on the choice of corporate establishment and equity basics
- IP Rights, exploring the various forms of IP protection (patents, copyright, trademarks, know-how, trade secrets etc.) and the management of the IPR Portfolio of a company
- Legal Compliance from statutory and regulatory aspect (administrative licesning, Data Protection – GDPR, Marketing, employment law) and Business Agreements
- Investments types and criteria for selecting the most suitable source of funding for a venture
The summer school was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Marketing and Communication of the Athens University of Economics and Business and took place in Athens and Syros. The program was delivered by academics from AUEB and abroad, as well as experienced practitioners from the field of digital business.
